A RECRUITMENT drive has been launched for the Upton branch of SARA, after the majority of its local members broke away to join another group.
Following the organisation's AGM, when station chairman Dave Walker was voted off the committee, many members left to join him in Mercia Inshore Search and Rescue (MISAR).
The two organisations will serve almost identical purposes and will operate along side each other on the Severn. Discussions are currently taking place about whether both will be stationed at Upton Marina.
SARA is currently being manned by staff at stations in Sharpness and Beachley, but hopes to recruit new local members.
Crew, land search and water rescue team members are being sought, as well as people to help out at the station and with fundraising.
Anyone aged 16 or over, who is interested in getting involved, should call 0870 0602001.
