STOURPORT Juniors travelled to the three-day National Schools Championships at Holme Pierrepoint in Nottingham and came away with the Creber Cup.

The women's junior double comprising Nicola Price (King Charles) and Rachel Saunders (Stourport High School) put together some tidy rowing to get thr-ough their eliminators and semi-final.

After a long day in worsening weather conditions, the girls battled hard in the final and came away with a creditable bronze.

With four strong crews due to compete, there was disappointment in the camp when racing was abandoned due to high winds. But racing resumed next day and Stourport produced the highlight of the day.

The men's junior 15 coxed quad comprising Mat Brighton (Stourport High) Nic Danby (Stourport High) Sam Maher (Hagley RC) Luke Barnet (King Charles), coxed by Becky Perkins (Stourport High) rowed with great maturity through the eliminators and semi-finals to take their place in the Creber Cup final alongside the top rowing schools in the country.

But the quality of the opposition was not an issue for the Stourport quad, who led from the start and extended the gap in the middle section.

Even when the Windsor Boys School crew pushed back at them in the closing stages, Stourport remained composed to take gold.

They won in six minutes 57.44 -- just half a second ahead of Windsor.
