SEAN Edwards believes Westfields need only a handful of summer signings to form a squad capable of winning next season's Travel Factory Midland Alliance.

The Hereford-based club finished sixth last term before making fresh changes to their management team, with experienced coaches Mick Panniers and Paul Mann taking over the reigns from Edwards and Darren Lynch.

Panniers and Mann will oversee the day-to-day running of the first-team, assisted further by former Birmingham City and Sunderland ace Ian Rodgerson, while Edwards has been appointed as 'head of football' at allpay.park.

Edwards believes the new duo have an excellent chance of steering Westfields to promotion if they can secure several close season additions.

Westfields have retained all squad members but are poised to lose centre forward Chris Jefferson, who is expected to back-pack around Australia for a year.

Edwards said: "Chris is due to fly out on June 16 for a month, but his intention is to stay out in Australia for 12 months. Obviously, we don't want to lose him but it's his decision.

"We have a realistic chance of winning the league next season.

"We've invested a lot of money on the pitch and if we can bring in two or three good players, including a striker, we can really push on."

Panniers was previously manager of West Midlands League club Kington Town, while Mann was in charge at Hereford Times Herefordshire League outfit Sutton United.

Peter Williams and Jimmy Clyde will continue to manage the club's Hereford Times League team, while Brian Jones and Andy Jones will be in charge of the under-18s youth side.

Westfields are holding their annual dinner and awards presentation evening at The Left Bank Village on Friday, June 10.
