BARNARDS Green seconds had mixed fortunes in their Worcestershire County League matches over the weekend.

On Saturday, they entertained Pedmore who, after being asked to bat first, struggled against the home attack. They were eventually bowled out in the 50th over for 177. The pick of the bowlers were Stu Fletcher, 3-42 off 14 overs, and Rich Brown, who mopped up the tail with 3-17 off five overs.

The total was never going to be enough and Green skipper Judd Doughty led the way with 92no, well supported by Mark Hooper (54no). The Green reached their target with nine wickets and 15 overs to spare to gain 20 points.

Bank Holiday Monday saw the Green travel to local rivals Worcester Nomads. The Green lost the toss and were asked to field. Nomads got off to a shakey start losing Taylor in the first over to Sam Spencer. C Harmer joined Nomads' captain D Finbow, who set about rebuilding the innings.

After losing Finbow (21) to the spin of Mark Jones, Nomads' hopes of a big score rested on Harmer's shoulders. He went on to score 134, with only minor support from the rest of the team, to set a total of 245.

In reply, the Green lost Hooper for eight quickly followed by Rob Middleton, run out without scoring. Jon Lewis joined Judd Doughty and together they started to rebuild the innings. They had taken the score to 84 before Lewis (36) was run out when backing up.

Then followed a major collapse and at 84-6, Doughty decided the best course of action was to gain a draw. Mark Jones made 17 but when he was out and Doughty followed for 54, the Green were in trouble 127-8 and still 10 overs left.

Graeme Glenndining was last out for 15 in the 48th over leaving the Green 155 all out.

The Green collected six points.
