MALVERN Seconds travelled to Bromyard looking to keep hold of their unbeaten WCL division two record on Saturday.

BROMYARD II v MALVERN II

Stand-in captain Neil Thompson won the toss and put Bromyard in to bat. The home side had reached just 22 before Paul Jauncey made the breakthrough in the 13th over, and when Mudway picked up another wicket just afterwards, Bromyard were left on 28-2.

This brought Pursall and Williams to the crease, both looking to go after the Malvern attack. The Bromyard run-rate started to pick-up but Mudway had other ideas when he dismissed both for 45 and 51 respectively.

Some good bowling and tight fielding restricted Bromyard to just 182 off their 50 overs, their remaining batsmen could never really get going. This was in the main down to Martin Mudway, who finished with figures of 5 for 62.

In reply, Malvern found it hard going early on. Opener Ian Walwyn was bowled for three and Andy Cullen was then needlessly run out for 10. Grove was next to go for a steady 24.

Unfortunately for Bromyard, they found Mark Mitchell in inspired form, playing some wonderful back foot shots. A near 100 run partnership between himself and Neil Thompson got Malvern within distance of their 183 run target, before Mitchell was eventually caught on the boundary for an impressive 59.

Thompson carried on where Mitchell left off, hitting the winning runs with a six to also reach his 50 and finish on 55no.

Another impressive victory for Malvern, winning by six wickets and picking up 20 points to stay clear at the top of the table.
