A FORMER England cricketer will be among the opposition when Herefordshire take on Cheshire in their first Minor Counties Championship match of the season at Luctonians' Kingsland ground, starting at 11am tomorrow.

Leg-spinning all-rounder Chris Schofield has experienced a dramatic fall from grace since being picked for England in two Tests against Zimbabwe almost five years ago.

Now aged 26, he played just three Championship games for Lancashire last year before being released.

Cheshire also include former Derbyshire off-spinner Nathan Dumelow, ex-Lancashire opening batsman Mark Currie and paceman David Pennett who has played some first-class cricket for Nottinghamshire.

Herefordshire have made five changes from the side which beat Shropshire in the first round of the MCCA Trophy last month.

There are recalls for local players Ed Rollings and Richard Parker with debuts for three Bradford/Leeds UCCE players, seam bowler Tom Glover, all-rounder Gulsheraz Ahmed and wicket-keeper Ryan Bradshaw.

They replace Matthew Rawnsley, Martin McCague, Richard Hall and Simon Roberts, who are unavailable.

Duncan Willetts will share wicketkeeping duties with Bradshaw this season.

McCague was Herefordshire's top performer with 7-68 when the sides last met two seasons ago in a rain-ruined draw.

Herefordshire: Harshad Patel, Henry Langford, Chris Boroughs, Gulsheraz Ahmed, Ryan Bradsaw, Peter Trego, David Exall, Omsar Ali, Tom Glover, Ed Rollings, Richard Parker.
