WORCESTER Rowing Club bagged a double at the Hereford City Regatta.

Crews won two titles but lost the most pretigious one -- the West of England Challenge Vase -- to Marlow Rowing Club by just one length.

The most satisfying win of the weekend was the Women's Novice Eight who confirmed their potential with the first ever Worcester victory for a novice women's eight.

They beat Hereford after taking an early lead. By half-way, Hereford pulled back level but the determination of the Worcester girls saw them pull away again with 250 meters to go, finally winning by one-and-a-half lengths.

The crew were: Lynne Stirling, Ann van Hyfte, Serena Carmichael, Alexa Taylor, Melanie Thorn, Miriam Culver, Georgina Packwood, Amanda Johnstone and cox Joe Meredith.

The Veteran Four of Steve Harries, David Birtwhistle, Gerald Harris, Barry Jones, recorded their first win of the season, beating Bewdley Rowing Club comfortably in the final. Steen McColl and Chris Couper eased their way to the final but unfortunately lost narrowly after a hard fought race.

At the National Schools Regatta, held in Nottingham, the Worcester Junior Quad four of Zoe Thompson, Caz Walker, Kirsty Adams and Ally Walker won their first round but after two very demanding races in the previous rounds in which the cox Chris Leatherdale steered an impeccable course they just failed to make the medal positions in the final.
