THE group campaigning to save the Droitwich Lido has vowed to continue the fight after the Government rejected calls for the buildings to be protected from development.
Speaking to the Worcester News this morning, Save A Lido Today (SALT) press officer Ian Wild said they were 'disappointed' at culture minister David Lam-my's decision that the Lido was of insufficient interest to merit listing, disclosed in a letter to Mid-Worcest-ershire MP Peter Luff.
But he said it was now vital the public aired their views on proposals to turn the complex into a mini-seaside resort, which will be discussed at a meeting of Wychavon District Coun-cil's executive committee at 6.15pm on Tuesday.
"We're of course disappointed with the decision, but what's important now is people get their questions in for the Lido and the new proposals they're putting forward," said Mr Wild.
The Lido buildings were assessed in 2002 by English Heritage, and considered not eligible to be listed.
The latest assessment, following requests from the public, reached the same conclusion.
It follows two separate assessments by English Heritage advisers. But Mr Luff disputed English Heritage's verdict.
"The detailed decision letters, which demonstrate careful attention has been given to the architectural and historical issues, do include a clear recognition of the value local people place on the Lido," he said.
