DERELICT former Worcester Royal Porcelain factory buildings are going to be demolished to make way for an ambitious riverside housing and leisure complex.
The disused brick buildings - 13 and 15 Mill Street and a building next to 86 Portland Street - had their fates sealed at a Worcester City Council planning meeting yesterday.
A majority of the councillors present at the meeting said they could not see any reason why the factory should not be demlished.
A letter from English Heritage - the body charged with preserving buildings of historic interest - also said it had no objections, removing any potential stumbling block to the redevelopment of the Diglis site.
The landowner and developer, Berkeley Homes, will now begin knocking down the buildings, which stood in the way of its plans to build up to 460 homes, complete with restaurants, pubs and a hotel, in the area.
