THE Harkaway Club point-to-point takes place at Chaddesley Corbett tomorrow (Saturday), with the first race at 2pm.
Angela Rucker and Young Whack had to share the spoils with the winner at Kingston Blount recently and on the basis of that performance should give a good account of themselves in the Ladies' Open.
The last few weeks have proved fruitful for the Droitwich-based rider because she also rode another winner down in Wales, but the Worcestershire-based partnership will be fully tested by the presence of Little Brown Bear.
He finished second at Garthorpe recently but benefits from the training regime at Diana Williams's stables at Enville. There is an added bonus as he will be partnered by her daughter Jane and her assistance could prove crucial in a close finish.
Helen Needham's Broome (Kidderminster) stable has had a poor season by her high standards, but Philtre (Members), Snowtre (Men's Open) and Mr Naborro (Intermediate) could send connections away on their summer recess with something to celebrate.
Philtre's last run over the course was very disappointing and he will struggle against the likes of Springbrook Girl, Saint Reverien and Prince Dundee.
Snowtre came good at the end of last season but he is leaving it rather late to open his account this year.
Considering there are just two weeks of the season remaining the Men's Open has attracted two top class performers.
Cannon Bridge is unbeaten in eight races in Wales this year, whereas local favourite Caught at Dawn has experienced an in and out campaign.
If the two main protagonists miss their engagements, the race should concern Chief Mouse, Hobbycyr, Royal Czarina, Saint Reverien and Springwood White. Mister Bruce is an interesting entry, he won a Maiden at this venue last week and comes from an astute stable.
Michael Hammond's Lower Broadheath yard will be hoping for another winner with Wieser Bud. He appeared to have problems getting the trip earlier in the season so the firmer ground will be in his favour and this provides him with his best chance of success.
