EMERGENCY crews raced to Droitwich this morning after a stolen car was found floating upside down in a canal.
The first call came in at 7am when an off-duty medic spotted the burgundy Ford Orion in the water beside Salwarpe Road.
Ambulance crews and firefighters - in their rescue dinghy - were called to the scene and checked over the half-submerged vehicle, but no one was found or injured in the incident. Police are now investigating the incident.
"It appears the vehicle was driven down a narrow towpath before entering the water - but why it was there and how it ended up in the canal is a mystery at present," said a police spokesman.
The car was stolen from Ombersley Road, Droitwich, between 5.30pm yesterday and 6.50am this morning.
The vehicle was expected to be lifted from the water at some time today.
If anyone has any information should contact Droitwich Police on 08457 444 888, quoting 61S/150605.
