I note another week, and another load of stereotypes being promoted throughout the paper.
Once again, the targets are young people who are described as 'yobs, thugs and hooligans.' Interesting reading, but total nonsense of course.
Let me set the record straight on a few matters - Charford is not a 'drugs estate.'
It may have its colourful areas, but so does every part of the town - if I may be so bold this was foolish and inflammatory reporting.
Your lead story on page two features young people raising almost £1,500 for charity and the Making Poverty History campaign. To brand young people as yobs
in letters, articles and features helps no-one, and hinders youth workers everywhere.
Also please let me correct Jenny Ashmore who refers to 'drink-fuelled yobs being allowed to roam the streets.' Ms Ashmore is of course talking rubbish.
I have been a youth worker for 15 years and have not seen a gang of drink-fuelled yobs roaming the streets once during that
time.
There are young people who walk the streets, but then I suspect Ms Ashmore does too. Such statements are hopelessly inaccurate, and may I suggest (as someone who is a committed Christian)that they are also totally in opposition to the teachings of Jesus.
I was surprised and disheartened to hear a member of St John's talk in this way.
