WITH regard to the recent meeting with Wychavon District Council concerning the heritage Lido, from the limited information available it would appear that the overwhelming opinion of the taxpaying public following the recent SALT survey and parish poll was not fully discussed, but only the Wychavon plans.
The people of Droitwich Spa firmly expressed their wishes and, while we appreciate there must be compromise, this sounds all very one-sided.
It would appear that some of those attending the meeting, apart from the SALT members, were not fully committed to this project - the Civic Society has been very quiet on the matter and the public were under-represented.
Bearing in mind the medically-supported health and social assets of the Lido and its attraction to visitors, I professionally suggest this would be to the benefit of the town overall.
In my chartered marine engineering and oil experience, the further expansion of the canal, including haulage use, would itself expose nearby houses to the hazardous toxic particulate emissions which would be released through the use of alternative red fuel, etc.
The public vote should now be carried to a Lido recovery conclusion.
