BOB Geldof's call on people to converge on Edinburgh after the Live 8 concerts is getting a lot of publicity but it is confusing public awareness of the official, and different, Make Poverty History Campaign actions at the G8 Summit Meeting.

As a supporter of the campaign please may I clarify the details of these two separate events, set for July 2 and July 6, as many people now suppose them to be one and the same event.

A Make Poverty History Rally will be held in Edinburgh on Saturday July 2, to which about 100,000 people are expected from far and wide. This day has been planned for months in advance by experienced organisers. Coaches have been registered and designated parking, accommodation details issued and stewards recruited. A focused programme of relevant events is planned for campaigners to take part in full. These have the full support of the police.

Coaches and other transport are going to the July 2 Rally from Worcester, Malvern, Kidderminster, Redditch and elsewhere in the West Midlands. A few places are still available. Contact www.makepovertyhistory.org

Bob Geldof's march is planned for arrival on July 6, four days after the main Make Poverty History Rally and is being organised separately, seemingly at very short notice. I do not know details for this.
