A BROMSGROVE mum, who began her Open University studies six years ago to stimulate her mind while at home looking after her second baby, is celebrating after gaining a first class honours degree.
Sharon Gerrard-Pickering, who completed her studies while on maternity leave with her third child, says she may now consider studying for a doctorate with a view to lecturing at university level.
The 34-year-old, from Victoria Road, worked for the NHS as an administrator before leaving to have her family.
Looking back on the diverse course work, which included religion, philosophy, art and architecture, she said: "I found it extremely hard work and more difficult than I had imagined it would be.
"But I had tremendous support from Nigel, my husband and the rest of my family. I was delighted at having gained a first class honours degree in humanities with history."
Sharon says she hopes her achievement will encourage her children to set their sights on a university education.
She will graduate on June 25 at Symphony Hall in Birmingham and the celebrations will continue at a family party to be held afterwards.
