A GROUP of townsfolk had a 'healthy and positive' debate about the lido issue last week.
The working group, created by Droitwich Spa Town Council after the recent parish poll, held a two-hour meeting to discuss the latest Wychavon plans for the site.
Made up of Save A Lido Today (SALT) campaigners, parents, members of the civic society and other interested parties, members of the group claimed there was a general agreement that the new Wychavon concept presented something very positive for the town.
The pool itself was the main focus of attention and whether it should contain saltwater, how deep it should be, and whether it should be rectangular or fish-shaped.
Mayor Richard Morris, who chaired the meeting, said: "I was very pleased with how the meeting went and the outcome achieved by all participants, there was a general consensus and I believe a way forward. All present agreed that we need a speedy solution with something Droitwich Spa can be proud of in the future."
Karen Wild, a representative of SALT, said: "All the key issues were touched upon and discussions were healthy and robust. The importance of Droitwich Spa's heritage was certainly discussed, also the need for a salt pool, whether the water should be heated and the suitability of the pool for swimming in were vital issues that were vigorously debated.
"This meeting was well worth while and I agree that this has definitely given us all a firm base from which to move forward and find an agreeable solution to all parties."
Officers for Wychavon District Council said they had taken all the points on board and these will be considered in their consultation report.
