DARYL Mitchell made his first-class debut for Worcestershire against Somerset last week.

The Bretforton youngster has waited patiently in the wings at New Road but that patience paid off when he was drafted in to replace England-bound Gareth Batty during the Frizzell County Championship clash at Bath last Friday.

Mitchell, though, will be disappointed with his efforts with the bat although facing a resurgent Andrew Caddick wasn't exactly the bowler he would have been hoping to face.

Watched by England's chairman of selectors, David Graveney, Caddick snapped up five victims including Mitchell who was trapped lbw having scored four runs off the 25 balls faced.

The 21-year-old was given a second chance during last Sunday's one-day match with Bangladesh but again he missed out scoring just a couple from ten balls before being bowled.

Mitchell was again in the senior side for the four-day Championship clash that started at Grace Road, Leicester yesterday.

The county has announced that all tickets for next Wednesday's opening Twenty20 Cup match at New Road against Warwickshire Bears have been sold.

Tickets, however, still remain for the other three matches against Northants Steelbacks on Monday, June 27, Gloucestershire Gladiators on Saturday, July 2 and Glamorgan Dragons on Wednesday, July 6. Reserve them by ringing 01905 337921 or on-line at www.wccc.co.uk

Former New Road legend, Basil D'Oliveira, was honoured with a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.
