CYCLING

WYRE Forest Cycle Racing Club's Paul Prince raced to victory with a superb sprint in round one of the Concorde CC road race series at Wishaw.

A large field of riders lined up for the 40km race on a fast flat course with 10 laps of the 4km circuit to race.

After making his first attack, Prince was reeled back in after one lap. After numerous attacks from other riders, he made another strong burst with two laps to go, but was again chased down.

On the final lap, Prince was placed at the front of the bunch and as they went in to the final corner with two riders in front with a small lead, he powered away with 150 metres remaining and won by two bike lengths.

Dave Barnes and Gary Bartram rode to the season's best times in the South Wales Police CC 25 mile time-trial at Glynneath, South Wales.

Barnes finished in 56 minutes 46 seconds while Bartram was a handful of seconds behind with 56-54.

Richard Pedersen rode to a time of one hour 2-03 on a windy and exposed Etwall course, near Derby, in the Belper BC Mark Storer Memorial 25 mile time-trial.
