TWO Kidderminster Chess Club teams met in the final of the Worcester and District League Cup, which ended with a 4-0 victory for First Division Kidderminster Knights over Second Division Kidderminster Rooks.
Rooks staged a better fight than the result suggests, but the Knights are a powerful side, with an average grading of 152, compared to the Rooks' 101.
Rooks' had previously pulled off a remarkable coup when they eliminated First Division Malvern in the quarter-finals.
Results (Knights first): John Wrench 1, John Varilone 0; Maurice Bissell 1, Paul Thomas 0; Jim Friar 1, Bill Pugh 0; Frank Pickett 1, Pountney 0.
