I WAS outraged to read the article about future closure of two wards at Evesham Hospital.
My mother and father had several long stays on various wards including the Willows Stroke Unit without which my mum would not have recovered as well as she did. The staff were very friendly, helpful and professional.
I do not know how people expect relatives to be able to visit loved ones as far away as Kidderminster not everyone has a car. Evesham is easily reached by public transport. It would be a very sad loss not only to patients but also the various staff who work there tirelessly from cleaners to canteen, nurses and doctors. My parents also had stays in Cheltenham and Worcester hospitals which I know are needed for specialist treatment but they were always glad to get back to Evesham as this was as near to being at home as possible.
There is a great deal of talk about world poverty at the moment but I really think this country needs to look a bit closer to home and get England back to the country it once was. We seem to be going backwards and not forwards. If Evesham was ever to close God forbid it would only lead to more pressure on Worcester hospital who already struggle to find beds now.
