WITH reference to the editorial in last week's Malvern Gazette, I find it hard to believe that you actually meant you would use taxpayers' money to subsidise the owners of shops, many of which are in the ownership of pension funds that bought during the 80s at a time when leases were renewed. Surely any pressure should be placed on them to take a real interest in the town that makes them their profits and not on the district council.
Ours was one of the organisations to benefit from the district council's community grant scheme in 2004. Without the financial help we would have been quite unable to open our own computer centre.
As it is, we are now providing for both younger and older members of the community, 12-14-year-old boys have two networked gaming sessions a week, which are noisy but fun and every week I have to turn youngsters away because I do not have enough computers, nor do I have the network capacity.
There are three sessions a week for older people who seem to appreciate the ability to learn about the web at their own pace.
The use to which the district council is putting this money is providing much-needed services for Malvern residents and is much more worthwhile.
Yes, it is a question of priorities and the priority must be Malvern residents and not people who just do not choose to keep their own house or shop in order.
