THE Barnes family from Malvern are celebrating this week after and wife and mother, Vivienne, received her 1st Degree black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do.

Vivienne, along with three other students from Malvern Tae-Kwon-Do, travelled to Doncaster to test under the AIMAA-UK National Grading Panel.

Vivienne has now joined her daughter, Faye, as one of the female black belts at the club. Husband Rob will shortly be testing for his 1st Degree black belt, which would make the Barnes family the first at Malvern Tae-Kwon-Do who are all black belts.

Kevin Summers, 5th Degree black belt, chief Instructor for Malvern Tae-Kwon-Do, is the highest ranked and most senior member of the AIMAA-UK National Grading panel.

He said: "The standard of the Malvern students testing was extremely high and they all deserved to pass. The build up and training prior to the grading has been very hard and everybody involved has given 100 per cent effort."

Other results and successes included Alan Miao (1st Degree black belt), Kim White (3rd Degree black belt), Michael Collins (4th Degree black belt) and Andrea Whitehead (4th Degree black belt).

Vivienne, Rob and Faye Barnes all train at the Malvern club, based at The Chase School.

They are one of several families who train at the school. Training takes place on a Tuesday and Thursday evening with classes being run from 7pm-8pm (beginners/intermediates) and 8pm-9pm (seniors).

Anyone interested in attending classes or starting Tae-Kwon-Do, can email Kevin Summers directly, kevin.summers@virgin.net or telephone on 01905 641630. Alternatively, you can visit the website at www.malverntaekwondo.co.uk.

Or just turn up at The Chase school gym, Geraldine Road, Malvern.

The first eight lessons are free to new students and there is no obligation to join at the end.
