IT has been a bad eight days for Malvern Town, losing out in two cup competitions and then losing this Travel Factory Midland Alliance fixture to high-flying Leicestershire side Quorn FC.
MALVERN TOWN 0, QUORN FC 3
Quorn got off to a flying start when their right back James Peryer did a one-two with his right winger collecting the ball near the bye line and crossing for Robert Pitman to head home for a first minute lead
Town almost gained parity when Nathan Jukes crossed to Chris Jones on the far post but his header sailed just over the crossbar. Minutes later a poor Quorn clearance fell to Duncan Preedy 25 yards out but his snap shot was wide of the mark. Des Cox broke through but his effort was directed straight at goalkeeper Matthew Nurse and easily saved.
Quorn's influential midfielder and skipper Jason Weaper laid on a great pass for speed merchant Joseph Jonas and he toe-poked wide of the goal as Paul Wyatt narrowed the angle. As the game progressed Quorn went close twice and Town's defence looked decidedly vulnerable, so much so that Andy Chalmers and Dave Cannon were forced into conceding free kicks just before half time.
Early in the second half Jukes pushed forward and was disappointed to see his shot beat the goalie yet rebound off the upright. At the other end Jonas crossed for Pitman but he headed straight into the arms of Wyatt.
The game then got a bit scrappy, and the referee struggled to remain in control, and was forced to speak to the Quorn management on three occasions for offering just a little too much advice. Quorn's Folwell got booked as did Andy Chalmers.
Nick Clayton then fouled Jonas in the box and Jonas took the resultant penalty sending Wyatt the wrong way for a 0-2 lead.
Town's frustration showed 20 minutes into the second half when Cannon and Michael Smith were involved in a scuffle and then Duncan Preedy and Clayton got booked for indelicate challenges. Folwell departed the game for his second bookable offence as he handled the ball during one Malvern attack.
Town had their chances late on and might yet have rescued the game when Phil Preedy blasted over and Simon Judge made two good diving headers, but one effort went over the crossbar and the other wide of the mark.
To compound Malvern's misery, substitute Cameron Noble nipped in and lobbed the ball over Wyatt for a third and decisive goal, giving Quorn a deserved victory.
