MALVERN Town made the long journey to Barwell in Leicestershire in midweek and returned home with all three Midland Alliance points thanks to a goal in each half by Phil Preedy.

BARWELL 0, MALVERN TOWN 2

Malvern welcomed back Craig Heaney, Chris Jones and Darren Bullock into the squad.

In a very closely fought first half, Malvern took the lead in the 25th minute when Phil Preedy hammered home from the edge of the box after Darren Bullock had headed the ball on to him.

Five minutes into the second period Paul Wyatt in the Malvern goal made a flying save following a piledriver from James Gray.

Malvern increased their lead in the 78th minute, the ball was fed out to Des Cox and he played the ball across the area for the unmarked Preedy to slot home.

Barwell tried to reduce the deficit but stout defending by Andy Chalmers and Dave Cannon and a great sliding tackle by Nick Clayton, to prevent Kevin Ward tapping in the ball in the final minute, enabled Malvern Town to keep a clean sheet.
