A WORCESTER woman claims she was the victim of sexual discrimination when she was refused entry to a city nightclub.

Rebecca Munden, from Tunnel Hill, went out with two female friends on Thursday night to celebrate the birth of her baby three weeks ago.

But when the women turned up at Tramps nightclub in Angel Place, Rebecca claims the bouncer would not let them in.

"He asked us who we were with and when we said we were on our own he told us: 'We can't let you in then'," the 25-year-old said.

"We'd only had a couple of drinks and we weren't acting drunk.

"The only reason we can think of as to why we were refused entry is that there were no men with us. That's sexual discrimination.

"Everyone else in the queue was in mixed groups and they all went in."

The claims come after the Worcester News ran two stories at the beginning of the month from women who claimed they had been refused entry into the city's nightclubs because they were too fat.

Kim Curtis, a size 24, from Gardners Close, Brickfields was refused entry to Bushwackers and Lyndsay Oliver, a size 18, from Droitwich, was refused entry into four bars and nightclubs.

Dean Hill, general manager of Tramps, said it was impossible to comment on individual cases but that if people are refused entry it was usually because they were too drunk, inappropriately dressed or unfamiliar faces. We never discriminate against groups of women," he said. " We have hen parties in all the time.

"Our door manager has more than five years of experience and would not turn someone away for no good reason.

"We do our best to ensure all clubbers have a good night."
