MALVERN United Angling Association's members fished for the Chairman's Cup last Sunday on the club's stretch of the Severn at Hanley Castle.

The river was carrying extra coloured water from the recent rains but for the second contest in a row the stretch's resident bream shoals were in feeding mood as match secretary Ian Goddard landed an excellent 38-12-0 of them. Drawn on peg 25, just two pegs upstream of last week's winning peg Ian tackled the swim with a groundbait feeder approach, having to add extra weight to combat the heavy flow, Ian took several bream to 4-0-0 in his haul but the biggest tipped the scales at a hefty 5-12-0.

Tom Hawker drew his favourite peg one again but went one better than last week by taking second spot with 6-14-0. Tom feeder-fished maggot and casters to take a mixed bag of fish.

Third spot went to Chris Loveridge, drawn in peg 20, Chris employed a groundbait feeder tactics to put 5-15-0 onto the scales.

The next river contest is the Derek Evans 'Float only' Trophy to be held on the Avon on Sunday, September 5. Draw 7.15am, fish 8-1.

After a successful trip last year, the club is running another outing to the King Sedgmoor Drain in Somerset

The Sedgmoor is a lovely stretch of water with comfortable pegs and a good head of bream, tench and roach to be caught. The club will once again be running a coach to the venue. For further details and to book a place, ring Mick Perks on 01684 561777.
