THE Malvern United Angling Association's stretch of the Avon at Birlingham continued its good form when members fished for the Club Cup last Sunday.
Big bream once again proved to be the match winners with Jerry Thomas, drawn on peg two, taking several good fish to 5lbs for a cup winning catch of 34-0-0 .
Framing once again was Neil Humpage, who took second spot with a net of skimmers and one nice bream of 4-0-0 using groundbait feeder tactics. Neil took the catch from peg 29 in the first meadow. Match secretary Ian Goddard had his hands full when he hooked a nice tench which he managed to land and tipped the scales at nearly 4-0-0, along with that he also landed a nice bream and some other bits for a total weight of 7-3-0 which was good enough to give him third place.
Just missing out on the top three was Dave Harris ,who fished his beloved pole to take a mixed bag of roach, skimmers and perch for 7-2-0, just one ounce behind Ian.
The Sandford series continues on Wednesday evenings and members fished the pool for the second in the series. Paul Bick took this one comprehensively with 36-0-0. Drawn on peg 21, Paul used pole tactics to land several carp in his winning haul.
The latest round was switched to the Avon from the Severn. All members caught fish but it was Colin Shaw who took this one with three nice bream all around the four pound mark and some bits for a winning total of 15-0-0. Colin employed groundbait feeder tactics from peg 30 to take his catch.
In second spot was Neil Humpage, in good form at the moment. He drew peg 35 and also landed a good bream of around 4lbs and several skimmers for a weight of 11-0-0.
Paul Bick pole fished his way to third place with 5-14-0 of skimmers, roach and perch. The fourth position was shared by John Shaw and Dennis Flanagan, who both scaled 4-11-0.
