NEIL Humpage went into the penultimate round of the Malvern United Angling Association's Spring League needing just a couple of points to secure the title.
He did better than that by taking the contest with the highest weight in the league so far. Drawn on peg 21, Neil started on a straight lead rig with sweet corn where he found one carp tight against the island. A switch to the margins and pole tactics saw him land a further six carp to finish with an excellent 23-0-9 adjusted to 7-0-0. Buzz Busby took second spot with three carp from Peg which gave him 9-2-0 adjusted to 3-0-0. Third place was taken by Mike Spragg who caught two carp and some silvers from the margins on peg nine weighing 6-8-0 adjusted to 2-10-0.
In the final contest Neil only needed to turn up but made sure by hammering the opposition with 20-0-0 consisting of seven carp on pole tactics from peg four adjusted to 7-15-0.
Way behind in second was John Cooper who took an all silvers net of 1-8-0 from peg eight. John Barr made it into third spot with a single carp weighing 8-10-0 from peg 20.
The long awaited glorious June 16 is upon us when anglers can get back on the rivers and test their running water skills.
MUAA members are looking forward to catching bream, barbel and chub from their stretch of the Severn and also to landing some of the large shoals of roach from the club stretch of the Avon.
There is a bank clearing session on the Severn this Sunday at 9am and the first contest is the Sandford Series on June 16 on the Avon, draw 6pm.
