GULSHAREZ Ahmed caught the eye in his Minor Counties Championship debut for Herefordshire, crashing 131 runs.
They amassed 403 all out from 87.2 overs at Shropshire with Chris Boroughs (70), Peter Trego (44), Henry Langford (31) and Harshad Patel (30) also pushing the total along.
Opener Ahmed shared a fourth-wicket stand of 111 with captain Boroughs as Herefordshire threatened to repeat their MCCA Knockout Trophy victory over the same side.
Shropshire lost Anthony Parker for four to an Omar Ali catch off Trego to go into today's play on 40-1.
