MALVERN Rugby Club continue their quest for the Midlands Two West title tomorrow (Saturday) when they welcome second-placed Hinckley to Spring Lane (2.30pm).

Director of rugby David Robins was pleased with last week's hard-fought victory at Stoke that saw the Spring Lane side run out 26-0 winners.

Robins said: "Stoke have always been a forward dominated side, playing scrapping rugby, so it wasn't a game for the connoisseur. They had no answer to our tight five, normally their area of strength, and we turned them over seven times in the set-pieces.

"The platform we gave our back row and backs was immense, coupled with Dave King's superb distribution. To lose Eastwood so early was a blow, we missed the penetration his strong, angled running gives us, but the fact that all our scores came from the backs shows that we have talent and versatility in that area.

"Nick Smith had another excellent game, whilst I can't find the words to describe Shaun Lancett's performance. James Hynes was my man of the match, he is slowly approaching match fitness and stayed the course on a heavy track.

"Aidan Ruddock again showed some deft touches and grows in stature weekly. We now go into stage two of our 'winter treble', facing close rivals Hinckley at Spring Lane.

"We know they like to play a similar game to us, which usually makes for some excitement, and then we have another home game against Burton on December 18.

"These two games could well determine the outcome of our season as we go past the halfway stage. The players are under no illusions about the immense task in front of them and have set a target of two wins - nothing less.

"We need to ensure Spring Lane becomes 'Fortress Malvern' once more."
