MALVERN Town travelled to local rivals Westfields on Tuesday and came away with a share of the Midland Alliance points after a turnabout game.

WESTFIELDS 2, MALVERN TOWN 2

Town settled into their stride quicker than their hosts and created a number of chances early on. Dean Roberts burst through the Westfields defence in the 20th minute and fired a great shot which forced an equally good save from keeper Jon Pugh. Simon Judge was on hand and dived full length to head home the rebound to give Town a well deserved lead.

Two minutes later Andy Chalmers collected the ball in midfield and chipped it neatly over the defence to Phil Preedy who was into his stride, but Pugh came off his line and cleared the danger.

Town were in command and Chalmers' next pass found Dean Roberts in space on the right wing, he crossed to Tom Callinan, who collided with Pugh as the pair contested the ball and it finished up in back of the net.

For most of the first half Westfields resorted to booting the ball up-field in an attempt to relieve the pressure and Town just kept bringing it back with good passing football.

Westfields, however, weathered the storm and just before half-time Derek Craddock worked his way to the bye-line and cleverly chipped the ball over Wyatt and two defenders to where Wayne Hoskins was lurking. He had the easiest of headers into an empty net.

This was just the lift that Westfields needed because when they came out for the second period they were a different side and took total control of the game.

The introduction of substitutes Aubrey and Beale had a marked effect on the game as they dominated the centre of the pitch and Malvern's midfield seemed to tire.

Town had few chances in the second half, the best of which fell to Chalmers but his toe-poked shot was blocked by Pugh, who alert to the danger had raced off his line.

Midway through the second half Westfields won a corner and Burton rose over a static defence to head home and level the match.

It was now Malvern's turn to hump the ball upfield as Westfields searched for a winner, but mercifully Town were saved by the final whistle without conceding again.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Malvern Town are at home against Boldmere SM (3pm) and Malvern Town Reserves are away at Bewdley Town (2.15pm).

On Tuesday (February 22) Town are away at Coalville Town (7.45pm).
