WORCESTER energy giant npower received two Big Ticks at the Business in the Community (BitC) Awards For Excellence ceremony.

The Big Tick Awards, as they are known, are one of the most prestigious in business and are recognised by all industries in all areas of the country. They are awarded to organisations that have a positive impact on both society and business.

npower received two big ticks in recognition of the work that has been done through its corporate respon-sibility commitment and Health Through Warmth scheme. BitC also announced that npower is one of just five businesses across the whole UK, and the only business from the Midlands, to be shortlisted for the prestigious company of the year award. The result will be announced at the Albert Hall in July.

"We believe that taking part in activities with environmental and social benefits is important and makes good business sense," said David Threlfall, chief executive officer of npower's retail business. "We also recognise that our activities have an impact on communities and are committed to carrying out our business with a sense of responsibility." The firm's Health Through Warmth programme was developed and introduced in 2000 to help tackle the issue of fuel poverty, associated cold-related illnesses and winter deaths by ensuring the installation of energy efficiency measures.
