HOLLYWOOD residents had to be evacuated from their homes after fire ripped through a nearby building company.

A number of gas cylinders stored at Wythall Roofing Centre, The Fordrough, exploded in Wednesday's blaze at about 1am.

Fire fighters from eight stations, including Bromsgrove and Redditch, used specialist equipment and managed to prevent the flames from spreading to Windrush Road homes nearby.

The blaze was extinguished within two hours but damage caused to company buildings, vehicles and engineering machinery is estimated at £250,000.

Bromsgrove Police are treating the incident as arson.
