A HUNT End student will tread the boards alongside Olivier-award winning actor Matthew Kelly in the musical Don Quixote Rides Again at Birmingham Repertory Theatre from Friday.
Fifteen-year-old Rosie Kemp (pictured) plays the part of Tom the cabin boy on the largest stage of her career. The St Augustine's pupil first became interested in the entertainment industry through membership of the Redditch Indigo Arts' Musicmaker organisation.
Matthew Kelly plays the part of the legendary Don Quioxte with George Costigan as faithful sidekick Sancho Panza.
The two are re-united on stage after their award-winning performances at the REP in Of Mice And Men. The new production by writer and director Chris Bond celebrates the 400th anniversary of the characters created by Cervantes with music composed by Jo Collins.
Part of Birmingham's Urban Fusion events the show features a cast of over 70 from across the West Midlands area, who will variously play the parts of vultures, pirates, monks, peasants and soldiers.
A spokesman said: "Don Quixote Rides Again takes us on an amazing journey to Spain 400 years ago. The age of chivalry is not quite dead as wannabe knight Don Quizote and Sancho Panza ride hell for leather across the REP stage, in search of wrongs to right and windmills to tilt at.
He added: "The Don may not quite be the full peseta and Sancho seems a few prawns short of a paella. The show promises an evening of mayhem, filled with dancing vultures, mad monks, beer-swilling pirates and a holy war to end all wars."
Recommended for ages 11 and over, the musical runs from Friday until Saturday July 9, evenings at 7pm, together with 2.30pm matinees on Thursdays and Saturdays. Tickets are priced £8-19.50 (concessions available) from 0121 236 4455 or www.birmingham-rep.co.uk CC2505006
