RIVALS Wythall and Five Ways Old Edwardians could be left looking to each other for favours at the weekend as they battle it out at opposite ends of the Division Three table.
Wythall will be looking to pull away from the foot of the table at home to a Pakshaheen side who are duelling with Five Ways for promotion. And ambitious Five Ways visit a Leek Wootton side who are bidding to drag Wythall back into the relegation picture.
Wythall helped put their disappointing start behind them with a comprehensive six-wicket win at bottom-of-the-table Haunchwood at the weekend.
The basement boys could raise only 136-10 on a humid afternoon and Wythall took advantage to pass the target for the loss of four wickets to claim a vital 20 points which gives them a 14-point breathing space over the bottom two.
Old Edwardians saw their promotion-hopes stutter at Warwick CC despite a heroic effort from all-rounder Edward McCabe.
McCabe enjoyed a five-wicket haul for 42 as Warwick were restricted to a disappointing-looking 186-7 off their overs.
And it was McCabe who led the way with the bat as well, only for his team-mates to struggle to emulate his top-scoring 58 as the Hopwood-based side fell an agonising one run shy in the final over to finish 185-8.
Five Ways' six-points leaves them third, 12 points off the top two.
