BAD blood between two young men ended in violence when they met in a Worcester bar, a court was told. Gareth Williams pushed a glass in Anthony Tame's face in reaction after he had been struck in the groin area, said David Iles, prosecuting.

Williams, aged 22, of St Richard's Gardens, Droitwich, pleaded guilty at Worcester Crown Court to unlawful wounding. He was given a 240-hour community punishment order and ordered to pay £500 compensation to Mr Tame and £300 court costs. Judge Michael Mott said pushing a glass into a man's face normally resulted in custody. But he accepted Williams had been struck a painful blow in a sensitive place and had reacted instantaneously and out of character.

Mr Iles said the pair had clashed in 2003 in a Malvern wine bar when Williams broke Mr Tame's jaw. He was cautioned. They met again on July 10 last year in Lloyds Bar, Crown Passage, Worcester, when there was reference to the Malvern incident and Mr Tame struck out because he thought he was going to be attacked. Williams was holding a glass, which shattered when it was pushed into Mr Tame's face. He accepted it was a reckless act after having too much to drink.

Tim Sapwell, defending, said Williams felt Mr Tame held a grudge against him and now he never went to Worcester to avoid meeting him.
