PARENTS and parents-to-be throughout the Bromsgrove area are being invited to get together to discuss the advantages of using real nappies on their newborn babies.
To coincide with Real Nappy Week, Bromsgrove District Council will be launching a series of 'Nappaccino Mornings' to highlight the reasons for disposing of those disposables for good.
Anna Wardell, Bromsgrove District Council's environmental strategy officer, said: "We strongly support the use of real nappies from both the baby friendliness point of view and our constant endeavour to cut down on waste.
"Disposables can take up to 500 years to decompose, which means the vast majority of those ever produced are still in the earth - and, they make up around four per cent of all household waste.
"Each baby requires 4,500 nappy changes from birth to potty training, and before taking to the potty a baby using disposable nappies will fill the equivalent of 45 supermarket trolleys with their dirty nappies."
Real Nappy Week starts on July 20 and Nappaccino Mornings in Bromsgrove are going to be held on the second Thursday of the month for six months starting on July 14.
They will offer parents and those about to become parents the chance to enjoy a cup of coffee while discussing the values of using the real thing. There will be a wide range of real nappies on display for parents to judge for themselves the user friendliness of modern reusable nappies, and there will be an independent Real Nappy Advisor on hand to answer questions and offer advice. The special mornings, which are free, will be held at All Saints Church Hall in Burcot Lane, Bromsgrove, from 10am until noon.
