ORGANISERS of the Alcester and Arden Folk Festival say a rescue bid by local business people paid off.
The festival faced cancellation three weeks ago because of lack of sponsorship but an offer of funds from a mystery man, backed by the support of other locals, ensured the show went on.
Hundreds of people flocked to the town for the three-day event, camping in fields off Stratford Road and enjoying the events at the Greig Centre and various other venues.
The committee was unable to secure any funding from local authorities this year and advance booking for tickets was down, leading to fears the festival would make a loss.
But one businessman handed over £4,000 after initially offering to underwrite any losses and the Greig Centre waived its fees, which wiped out those fears.
Next year's festival has been booked for June 16-18.
