THE match of the week in the Premier Division of the Prudden Road Surfacing League was between Clave-rdon and Stratford C.

Nigel Bacon and James Courier began well after a hard-fought three-set rubber against Stratford's Gary Scruby and Mark Parsons.

The first set went to the Claverdon pair on a 7-6 tie-break. Stratford hit back to take the second 7-5 only for Bacon and Courier to reverse that score in the deciding set.

In their second rubber, the Claverdon pair came up against an equally determined Strat-ford skipper Lawrence Dingley and Richard Monk who, not only took them to three sets, but inflicted a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 defeat.

It was left to Claverdon captain Richard Butler and And-rew Williams to save the day with two straight set victories 6-4, 6-3 over Dingley and Monk and 6-2, 6-1 over Scruby and Parsons to lift them out of the relegation zone.

Amazing

Stratford's B team maintained their amazing record of not dropping a single rubber all season with another 4-0 whitewash.

Captain Tim Page and Simon West led the way with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Littleton's Sean Witheford and Scott Withe-ford before overcoming Rich-ard Herbourne and Chris Elliott 7-6, 6-1.

Meanwhile, Callum Bailey and Rob Slatter got the better of Herbourne and Elliott 6-2, 6-1 and the Withefords 7-5, 6-0.

Division One leaders Ship-ston were unable to call on some key players and paid the price as they crashed to a 4-0 reverse at in-form Tanworth-in-Arden.

Bidford and FISSC took full advantage and both join Shipston on 23 points courtesy of 3-1 home victories over Littleton B and Stratford D respectively.

In the remaining match, FISSC B and Pershore played out a 2-2 draw at Tiddington - a result that leaves FISSC B two points clear of their opponents who occupy the second relegation place just above Stratford D.

The top two sides in Division Three consolidated their positions with Moreton defeating Shipston B 3-1 and second-placed Studley whitewashing Henley.

Bidford's match with Camp-den was littered with tie-breaks and the 2-2 draw was a fair result.
