KIDDERMINSTER Victoria found the "wright" formula to clinch a four-wicket win at Bromsgrove in the Birmingham and District Cricket League Division One on Saturday.

After the hosts had been dismissed for 160, Kidderminster skipper Jonathan Wright cracked an undefeated 100, which included two sixes and 18 fours.

On-song Wright has now scored 411 runs in eight league innings this season - an impressive tally which includes the 146 he cracked off the Harborne attack earlier this month at Chester Road.

Kidderminster still lie third in the table but will fancy their chances of making ground on the top two with back-to-back home matches against Aston Unity and Sutton on their next two outings.

At Bromsgrove, Wright won yet another toss - his seventh in eight league matches - and put the home side in on a green-looking wicket.

The Kidderminster opening bowlers, Craig Jennings and Ted Baylis, soon had four wickets between them. Jennings bowled opener Court for a "duck" and saw Nigel Davenport catch Edwards off his next ball. At that stage it was 6-2 in only the third over.

It got worse for the home side when Baylis struck in the sixth over by clean bowling skipper Nick Davies for a single.

Next man in, Barnes, was soon out when he was lbw to Baylis, who performed the hat-trick a few weeks ago and hopes were high of a repeat as he raced in. However, Bromsgrove, now 13-4, managed to keep him at bay.

Stephen Peters, dropped recently by Worcestershire, then got some valuable time at the crease by frustrating the Kidderminster attack. Mark Evanson proved to be a good partner as they moved the score on to 82. Warren Irvine, back in to the first team, then bowled Evanson for 37.

It was left to Peters to get Bromsgrove out of trouble and he worked hard, but his fellow batsmen were unable to do a similar job.

The score had reached 102 when Mark Mansell took a good slip catch to remove John Duffy for 10 off Marc Derrick.

Jennings was restored to the attack and soon took his third wicket - Peters for 83. Davenport took the important catch.

At 141-7, there appeared little Bromsgrove could do to reach a respectable score. Fisher was out lbw to Davenport for a "duck", Nick Husbands was caught by Baylis off Mansell and Davenport struck once more in bowling Tom Hill for a single. Sean Jackson was 16 not out.

With Bromsgrove being dismissed in 47.5 overs, it left Kidderminster 62 overs to score 161.

Opening pair, Wright and Mansell, started in cavalier fashion with 28 runs inside four overs. However, it ended when Mansell departed for 12 having been trapped lbw by Davies. Divan van Wyk was next in after having kept wicket in the absence of Tom Sherriff. Perhaps tiredness got the upper hand because he had scored just nine when Davies struck again. Craig Wood started well and he and Wright looked set for big things when Husbands was adjudged to trap him lbw.

At 84-3, Kidderminster were still comfortable, but when Phil Shaw, promoted from the second team, hit his own wicket without scoring, matters began to look serious.

Wright was playing a superb innings, but some hard work was needed from his team-mates.

Another promoted player, Peter Stevens, came in but unfortunately he was the next victim, caught by Davies off Sean Jackson for 2. Wright was still scoring freely and the total had reached 109.

Davenport looked as if he might offer support and had scored 13 when Davies took his third wicket by virtue of Evanson's catch.

It was then 135-6 with plenty of overs left, but it began to look as if Kidderminster might need them all if they were not to throw the game away.

Twenty six runs were required when Baylis came in. Normally he likes to strike out for quick runs, but he let Wright dictate the pace.

The experienced Wright eventually reached his well-deserved century while Baylis won the match with a superbly struck four.

Bromsgrove 160 all out (47.5 overs), KVCC 161-7 (35.3 overs).

KVCC (20pts) won by 4 wkts, Bromsgrove (4pts).

KVCC seconds picked up 24 points for their Birmingham and District League Second Division match at home to Moseley Ashfield (6).

Andrew Siwicki scored 57 in Kidderminster's total of 225-9 before Moseley were removed for 181.
