A WOMAN whose brother has a fractured skull after being attacked in a Kidderminster subway is furious that there is no CCTV in the troubled underpass.
Angry Diane Jbilou is demanding cameras be installed in the Comberton Hill subway and has made an impassioned appeal for anyone to come forward that can shed any light on the identity of her brother's attackers.
The motive behind his assault is a mystery as the attackers did not steal anything - even though the 37-year-old was carrying a mobile phone, money and house keys.
The victim, who does not wish to be named, was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital following the attack in the early hours of last Sunday, June 12.
He was readmitted two days later when his symptoms worsened and an X-ray revealed a fractured skull.
"Someone must have seen something because there's a busy road with fast food chains up the hill," Mrs Jbilou told the Shuttle/Times & News.
She explained her brother had been walking towards his Kidderminster home after a night in the town when he was set upon by two men.
He was hit from behind and then kicked in the head.
His friend that he was walking ran to call an ambulance and reported the incident to the police.
Adding that an elderly person would "not have stood a chance" in the attack, 39-year-old Mrs Jbilou said her "main concern" was the absence of cameras in the underpass.
"A lot of things have been things going on in there for the last two years and nothing has been done about it," she said.
"People go on about the council making the town look nice, putting flowers everywhere, but people aren't safe."
Head of cultural, leisure and commercial services at the district council, Andrew Dickens, responded by saying a limited number of CCTV cameras had been put in Kidderminster crime hotspots as advised by the police.
"Quite clearly you can't have 100 per cent coverage unless there are 1000s of cameras but we constantly keep the situation under review with the police and if the crime risks change we will see what can be done to address it," he said.
Anyone with information on the attack should contact Kidderminster CID on 08457 444888.
