THE mayor of Evesham, Councillor Frances Smith was on familiar territory when she opened the Sculpture Park and Jubilee Garden at Evesham High School.
The mayor was among the first to attend the school when it opened in 1954, she became head girl and is currently chairman of governors there.
She was joined a ceremony by former pupils and staff as well as current staff and some of the pupils from the latest intake, all of whom were welcomed by headmaster David Kelly.
Derek Waite, design and technology teacher, said they had tried to link the water feature to one of the original Four Pools which gave their name to the area and the road on which the school was built.
Lee Lungley, head of biology, said: "Much work still remains to be done, including thorough dredging of the pond that is now severely silted up."
