AT the June 15 meeting, Alan and Andrea Stanley spoke about Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA).
Apart from being coxswain of the local rescue craft, Mr Stanley is also executive chairman, while his wife is secretary.
The swift-flowing tidal estuary from the River Severn, from Avonmouth and Newport up to Gloucester, is an area not covered by the RNLI, and up as far as Shrewsbury is covered by SARA's 24 hour, 365 days a year emergency service.
SARA was formed in 1973 and became a registered charity in 1976. It has answered 82 calls in the past year.
