THERE was a smaller than usual turnout of dinghies at Arden Sailing Club (Defford) on Sunday, maybe the still morning and very hot weather put people off.
However, by noon there was a nice breeze coming in from the south, and it remained for the rest of the afternoon, with the odd 'hole' making for interesting sailing from time to time.
The first race of the day was number four in the Pursuit series with the Solo of Ralph Evans being second by just 13 seconds to the Enterprise of Niall Campbell and Jane Smee, whilst the Appleby's GP14 over-hauled Val Jolly's Topper literally two or three seconds before the finish.
The second race of the day was a Strensham five, an enjoyable sail was had by all, though the GP14 and the Topper found rounding the corner below Strensham Church, quite tricky in the variable breeze.
Jeremy and Michelle Griffiths pressed Niall and Jane (both Enterprises) from the start, but the latter got away when Jeremy was over ambitious with a roll-tack on the afore mentioned corner and shipped a lot of water, so that his crew had to concentrate on bailing for a couple of tacks.
The final places were first Niall and Jane, second Jeremy and Michelle, with Val Jolly reversing the result from the earlier race to beat the GP14 of David Appleby and his son.
There are still some places on the training course starting Saturday, July 2, for people who are interested in learning to sail.
