STUART Watkiss prepares to head into pre-season training with the kind of scenario no manager would relish.

A summer of uncertainty has led to no new signings at Kidderminster Harriers yet, despite a host of players released following their relegation to the Conference.

Manager Watkiss is likely to have a few trialists and youth-team hopefuls turn up for the first session on Wednesday but must otherwise cope with a squad of just eight contracted players.

However, there is hopefully light at the end of the tunnel with the scheduling of a press conference at Aggborough on Monday morning.

Although the details are confidential, Aggborough Holdings -- the consortium involving vice-chairman Barry Norgrove and retired businessman Neil Savery -- will be making an announcement.

Watkiss said in the week: "I believe talks are on-going and continuing with a view to Barry's consortium taking over.

"I genuinely believe that the club are getting closer to a break-through.

"But we're getting to an absolutely critical time on the football side and this needs to be resolved quickly."

If Aggborough Holdings do complete the take-over, Watkiss will at least have some time to fill his squad for the pre-season opener at Bromsgrove Rovers on Tuesday, July 12.

It was to be at Stourport Swifts on July 9 but that has been cancelled as the Walshes Meadow pitch is already booked for a five-a-side competition.

Meanwhile, defender Simon Weaver has turned down York and several Coca-Cola League clubs to sign for Conference rivals Scarborough after his release from Harriers.

The club will also be up against another old boy with Matt Gadsby signing a new two-year deal at Forest Green Rovers.
