JOHN Bickerton aims to make the grade for the Open Championship at qualifying today following the French Open in Paris.

The Droitwich Spa golfer finished on 286 after rounds of 69, 71, 73 and 73 left him half-way down the final leaderboard on two over par.

Now busy Bickerton looks to secure one of the expected 12 spots available at next month's Open with a good display at Sunningdale.

But he will be up against the likes of former US Masters winners Ian Woosnam and Jose Maria Olazabal from a field of 120.

The French Open was won by Jean-Francois Remesy who successfully defended his title after a dramatic play-off with Jean Van de Valde.
