INDUSTRIAL firms in Worcester have been warned by police to be on the look-out for scrap metal thieves.
The warning follows two incidents in the city in which £11,000 worth of scrap was taken.
In the latest incident, thieves used a white Mercedes Sprinter van to steal £5,000 worth of scrap aluminium from the Worcester News offices in Hylton Road, Worcester, at 4pm last Tuesday.
In the first incident, two large wooden drums of copper cable, valued at £6,000, were stolen from an electricity sub-station in Blackpole Road, Worcester, some time after 4pm on Friday, June 17.
A police spokesperson said: "While urging engineering and manufacturing businesses to take appropriate precautions to protect valuable scrap material from their processes, we would also like to hear from any local scrap metal dealers who may be offered the aluminium or the cable."
Worcester Police can be contacted on 08457 444 888, quoting 378S/210605 for the Worcester News incident or 33C/200605 for the cable theft.
