WORCESTER badminton star Simon Archer today progressed to the main draw of the Aviva Singapore Open men's doubles.
Archer, 32, an Olympic medallist, and doubles partner Anthony Clark took their place in the last 32 of the fiercely contested Far East tournament after sailing through two qualifying rounds.
The English national champions destroyed Singapore pair Yan Sen Koh and Bin Muhd Azlin 15/0 15/5 in the first round of the qualifying stage, before breezing past Malaysian counterparts Thien How Hoon and Boon Heong Tan 15/2 15/9 in just over half an hour.
Nottinghamshire-based Clark and Archer now face Danish pairing Thomas Laybourn and Peter Buur Steffenson on Thursday in the first round proper.
Archer, the 2000 Olympic mixed doubles bronze medallist, will hope to make good progress after missing the Sudirman Cup World Team Championship in Beijing last month.
Earlier this month, Archer and Clark qualified for the World Championships in Anaheim, California, being held in mid-August.
