TABLE tennis in Worcester has a bright future following a season of success on the junior stage.
Scores of City youngsters featured in tournaments in the county and across the country.
Chairman Doug Young announced the success at the league's annual meeting at the Alma Inn, Droitwich Road.
Stars of the future have benefited from the last campaign with coaching officer Lewis Siket setting up two junior divisions at Christopher Whitehead School to cope with demand.
Two school team events were also organised in conjunction with the Junior Championships.
Elsewhere, youngsters entered the County Cadet Inter-League, county trials at Evesham, the National Cadet League at Cirencester, the Junior County Championships in Worcester and the English Schools Table Tennis Association competitions.
Six city schools had entries in the English Schools Table Tennis Association Singles at Evesham. Leon Campbell won the Under 11s for a place at the regional finals at Fenton Manor where he went on to represent the West Midlands.
In the team event, St George's CE Under 11s boys won their group and the girls finished second. Both teams went on to finals at Cheltenham and Southampton respectively.
Eight-year old Michael Siket, the league's youngest player, also travelled to Kings Lynn for the Under 10s National Championships.
Lewis Siket was made an honorary life member for his work with junior coaching and re-establishing the youth league.
Meanwhile, battles for success are on the up in the league since the introduction of a new format.
Four divisions were brought in at the start of the last campaign and have led to closer competition at the top and bottom of leagues.
However, some players found an element of bordeom at playing the same players four times during the season.
A successful year culminated with a good attendance for the finals night.
