Ten-year-old charity walker Jasmine Barker celebrated the end of a 14-mile walk for Acorns Children's Hospice with a surprise party.

Jasmine, who raised a total of £570 for the hospice, was greeted by her family and friends when she returned home from her sponsored walk on the Malvern Hills.

The party came at the end of a seven-hour trek in wind and rain along the hills.

"I was so pleased to see my family and my best friend Jodie waiting for me and a surprise party," she said.

Jasmine, a pupil at Leigh and Bransford Primary School, organised the charity walk herself, collecting sponsorship and donations for Acorns.

Around 2,000 people attended the 10th anniversary garden party at Madresfield Early Years Centre.

The event took place on Sunday at Hayswood Farm, where the attractions included gymnastics displays and pony rides.

Proprietor Alice Bennett said: "The party raised £1,800, which will provide new gymnastic and outdoor equipment."

Next week, children at the centre will perform a musical production, Terror Of The Sea, for their families to raise money for a children's charity in Africa.

A ceremony to mark the opening of the centre's new woodland classroom takes place on Friday, July 15.

Anniversary celebrations continue on Monday, July 18, with a grand circus fun day.

Children and staff will dress up in clown costumes, follow a procession and release 100 helium-filled balloons. There will also be plenty of other activities for the public to enjoy.

HOLY Trinity Church, Link Top is due to hold a summer fete on Saturday, July 9 from 10am to 2pm.

Attractions include cake, gift and bathroom stalls and the Trinity Wives restaurant will offer a ploughman's lunch followed by strawberries and cream.
